Operator’s ‘American Idol’ Job Fair Proves Eye Opening

Posted on November 17, 2011

MALVERN, Penn. — Dennis Adams was expecting a rush of applicants in this job market when he widely announced and promoted a job fair for Celebrity Worldwide Chauffeured Transportation on Nov. 13.

But only 10 people showed up. However, the buzz prompted a wave of interested applicants to call this week to see if they could show up, since they couldn’t make it to the fair. Others just showed up at Celebrity Worldwide headquarters.

The net result from the job fair and unexpected calls and visits is that Adams hired four CDL bus drivers and four chauffeurs, all of them experienced, with all either training or already on the road as part of a workforce that operates a 50-plus vehicle fleet in the Philadelphia region.

“The job fair was good and bad,” Adams e-mailed LCT on Monday before the office visits came about. “Believe it or not with all the press and advertising only 10 persons showed up, but on the flip side, we hired three experienced chauffeurs and one motor coach driver with 30 years’ experience.”

Adams said he will try the job fair again after Jan. 1, except this time, he will hold it on a weekday.
