United Motorcoach Association honors California operator Gary Bauer for setting high standards for motorcoach operators.

LAS VEGAS — During the United Motorcoach Association (UMA) Expo last month in Las Vegas, Bauer’s Intelligent Transportation (Bauer’s IT) was honored with the UMA Vision Award for a large company (fleets comprised of 15 vehicles or more).

The award, along with the UMA Vision Award for a small company, and the UMA Green Highway award, was presented on the evening of Feb. 25 at the UMA Awards banquet and dinner.

UMA's Vision Award is given to a company that raises the standards for all other motorcoach companies.

“We were very excited and honored to receive the award. There were a lot of other good candidates that were up for it, and we feel very honored to receive an award of that caliber,” said Gary Bauer, founder and CEO.

San Francisco-based Bauer’s IT is working on several new projects, including the creation of a solar-powered hybrid bus and a full-sized electric bus to complete more than 100 miles in one charge.

“We spend a lot of time training and working with our staff to make sure they drive equipment the right way and don’t idle it,” he explained. He added that staff members are constantly rewarded to keep focused on the company vision of being as green as possible. “We [reward] whoever receives the highest miles per gallon on a monthly basis.”

Last year, Bauer’s IT won the Green Highway Award, which honors the most eco-friendly coach operator in the U.S.
