LCT Industry Association Update and Preview

MARLTON, N.J. — LCT Magazine’s new associate publisher and east coast editor, Linda Moore, is having an active first two weeks rounding up all kinds of news and happenings from major industry associations along the East Coast. Moore snagged a key interview with New York Taxi & Limousine Commissioner Matthew Daus, which will be featured in the March issue of LCT Magazine.

Here is a sampling from the upcoming Association News section, also to run in the March issue of LCT Magazine:

Limousine Associations of New Jersey

LANJ is working with the New Jersey State Legislature to draft a compromise bill to remove the 7% sales tax on service which was enacted two years ago. The association is asking its members for revenue data from before the new tax was enacted and after it was in place in order to show the adverse effect the tax has on the industry. LANJ believes that they could have a compromise bill enacted by 2010. To participate in this study, contact LANJ by emailing sara.williamson@limo.org.

Philadelphia Regional Limousine Association

The PRLA is working with its local legislature to change the regulatory system for the limousine industry, changing its overview from the Philadelphia Parking Authority to the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission (PUC). Philip Jagiela, president of the PRLA, said, “We have been working hard to remove the redundancy, onerous fees, fines, regulations, lack of oversight and to create a system which is properly managed and regulated.” The current regulatory structure allows the Parking Authority to change the regulations without the need to have prior public hearings. The next step in the process is a scheduled meeting with the state legislature and a proposed bill which would remove regulation of the limousine industry from the Parking Authority to the PUC. The association is working to draft the proposed bill.

Luxury Base Operators Association

LBOA of New York held its inductions of officers on Monday at Tavern On the Green in New York City. Taxi and Limousine Commissioner Matt Daus was on hand to swear in the officers and offered assistance with the association. He commended the founders — Sergio Sanchez and Guy Palumbo of Partners Executive Transportation — and the new board for their foresight in creating the association and for working together toward a unified voice.
