CHICAGO – Rosemont Park District commissioners passed a limousine parking ban for lots the district owns near Stephens Island park behind the village's "rose" water tower. The park board passed the ban at its Wednesday, Nov. 11 meeting. It will go into effect Jan. 1, 2009.
Park District Director Karen Stephens said several limousines have recently been regularly parking in the spaces overnight.
Stephens suspects that one limo company might be using the area to store vehicles. Rosemont Police will investigate the ownership of the vehicles.
Stephens Island is located across the street from a small condominium development near River Road and Higgins. The park district owns all the parking spaces adjacent to the park and condominium development. Each resident is allowed one parking space in the park district lot.
The new ordinance would prohibit limousines longer than 22 feet or with commercial limousine license plates.
Through the remainder of 2008, warning notices will be placed on limousines that would violate the law when it becomes effective.
