NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – The owner of A Classy Ride limousine service was arrested at his home on suspicion of scamming about $1.1 million from his customers' credit cards.

Hamid Reza Derakhshi, 45, who both lives and works in Newport Beach, is being charged with fraudulent use of a credit card.

Police say Derakhshi made unauthorized transactions with customers' credit cards several days or even months after they had used the limousine service.

According to police, he took about $600,000 from American Express over several years and about $500,000 from MasterCard and Visa since July 2008, making charges ranging from $900 to $1,500.

Bail has been set at $500,000.

Police are asking customers of A Classy Ride to check their credit records and to notify their banks if they notice unauthorized charges. Newport Beach police can be contacted at (800) 550-6273.
