Springfield Purchased by Imperial Systems

FT. LAUDERDALE, FLA. — Springfield Coach Industries Group, Inc. has been sold to Imperial Systems, Inc., a Ft. Lauderdale-based company with numerous automotive holdings. Imperial will still be using the Springfield, Mo., manufacturing facility operated by Springfield Coach to build Lincoln stretch limousines, but is also creating another facility in South Florida to build Chrysler 300 livery and other vehicles, according to Gary Spaniak, CEO of Imperial Systems. The Springfield Coach and CIGI brands will no longer be in use.

Imperial Systems got into the limousine business because of the opportunity presented by buying Springfield Coach, but also because the company feels there is a market opening to fill, since most limousines and livery sedans are “cookie cutter,” Spaniak said. Imperial plans on competing in the industry by offering something different — a two-tone Chrysler 300 livery sedan with an attractive package of features all built into one price.

“We want to move upmarket with quality product,” Spaniak said. “Springfield Coach was more focused on the financial side of the business, but we’re focusing on the product side.”
