RICHMOND, V.A. — Richmond International Airport recently approved a plan to build a 40-space free “cell-phone lot” by April, 2007 designed for motorists waiting for arriving travelers in close proximity to terminal parking.
The main lot is expected to cost $250,000 with a $110,000 price tag slated for the temporary cell-phone lot, which will most likely come from federal highway money. The commission also plans to spend an additional $250,000 to widen the terminal roadway for limousines and other large vehicles.
According to the airport, motorists waiting for planes have created their own lots and pull-off spots while waiting for passengers. The commission says the new lots may be temporary because other projects may cause them to be moved within three years.
