Royale Limousine Manufacturers in Haverhill, Mass. updated its approval for vehicles exported to Canada to include all models from 1994 to current, including the fifth-door models.
?Approval took us about six months of testing and documentation,? said Cabot Smith, president of Royale. Smith explained that because of a personnel change in the limousine division at Transport Canada, all coachbuilders that previously had Canadian pre-clearance are required to re-certify.
Although Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) are similar to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS), the CMVSS require extensive documentation and continuous testing each model year.
Most of the FMVSS are certified for the coachbuilders through the QVM and CMC programs, but the individual coachbuilders themselves must certify the CMVSS.
