Guy Mongello, president of Paradise/Elegant Limousines of Tampa Bay in Pinellas Park, Fla., has been named Taxicab, Limousine and Paratransit Association (TLPA) Operator of the Year.

The award was presented today at the TLPA Annual Convention & Trade Show in Atlanta.

?I was very surprised to be nominated,? Mongello said. ?I didn?t know those guys put me in for it.? Mongello received nominations from John Patti of Buffalo, N.Y., Jon Chester of San Diego, and Irwin Mekler of Absolute Elegance Limousines in Clearwater, Fla.

Mongello has been in the limousine business since 1988, and credits his success to the family atmosphere that is encouraged among his employees.

?The family atmosphere is our biggest thing here,? he said. ?Without everybody here, it wouldn?t work. I think that the chauffeurs - they make an extra effort to be professional. Also, we?re real particular about who we hire. If the employees believe in what the ownership is doing, and for them, I think they put out the extra effort, and they?re treated very fairly.?

Mongello is active in his local associations and credits this participation to his nomination. ?I believe that the biggest reason why that I was nominated was not just for our operation here, but my involvement with the local, state and national associations,? he said. ?I think that was a lot of it, because they know that I put a lot into the industry, especially in the Tampa area.?
