ROANOKE, VA. — AAA estimates that gasoline prices will easily reach a national average of $2.50 by spring. The organization attributes the price increase to a continued rise in crude oil prices and an annual cleaning that the nation's refineries undergo each spring that usually slows production.
AAA does not expect such an increase to affect car travel very much. Judging by the steady travel numbers after Hurricane Katrina, AAA says motorists are likely to pay the higher price and keep driving as they did before.
