LANJ Working With Airport on Driver ID Program

NEWARK, N.J. — The New York & New Jersey Port Authority and Continental Airlines have been working in conjunction with the Limousine Associations of New Jersey (LANJ) to implement a 90-day pilot program at Terminal C of the Newark Airport, which originally began on May 1st. Part of the justification for their wanting to have this program is for security, passenger service, and elimination of hustlers.

The basics of the program are simple: any driver seeking to pick up passengers inside of Terminal C must use one of the two chauffeur waiting areas (one domestic and one international). All New Jersey drivers must have an ID badge issued by Excel Security Corporation by June 16th, otherwise they will be asked to leave the Terminal. Non-NJ drivers will be asked by Port Authority Police to show their out of state driver's license and will be directed to the chauffeur waiting areas to greet their passengers.

After the pilot program period and necessary adjustments are made, the Port Authority will make a decision whether or not to implement the program at all three Port Authority airports. If the program is made permanent, then drivers from all states servicing those airports will be required to register with the Port Authority and obtain an ID badge.
