Detroit Airport Cracks Down on Trolling Limousines

Posted on December 6, 2006 by LCT Staff - Also by this author - About the author

ROMULUS, MICH. — Under a new rule recently established by officials at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport, chauffeurs caught soliciting fares in terminals will be kicked out of the airport.

The rule also requires for hire vehicles to park in designated areas and obtain credentials before entering the airport. The new regulations are part of a settlement with a group of 40 limousine and cab companies who sued the Wayne County Airport Authority, which runs the airport, in June 2006 over a new policy that more than tripled per-trip fees and prohibited drivers from meeting passengers inside of the airport.

A spokesman for the airport said that customers have been very annoyed with the soliciting and he expects chauffeurs to have a more difficult time soliciting after the restrictions are in place. Although the fee hike remains active, the drivers are now allowed inside the building.
