Operator Catches Robber With Cell Phone Camera

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A limousine driver helped police find a robber after snapping photos of him and his truck using the camera in his cell phone.

The knife-wielding robber was caught early Oct. 2, thanks to photos taken by Ismael Miranda, a chauffeur for The Limo Co. The camera photos helped police find, identify and arrest the man about 10 minutes later.

In the photograph, standing beside his red GMC truck, was a suspect whom police identified as James Robert Barker, 47. Barker was charged with attempted aggravated robbery and was held in lieu of $7,500 bail.

Police say Barker drove into a carwash and asked Miranda about buying the limousine, police said.

Barker left but came back a few moments later with a knife and allegedly demanded money, police said. Miranda, a driver for The Limo Co., snapped photographs of the man using a tiny digital camera inside his cell phone.

Miranda said he was able to lock the doors of his limo with the Lincoln Town Car remote control in his pocket to keep his assailant from getting inside.

Police said Barker chased Miranda around the car and threw a trashcan at him. Barker eventually fled without getting any money as another car pulled into the parking lot, police said.

Barker was arrested when an officer noticed that Barker fit the description of the man in the picture that Miranda had provided to police.

Officers at the scene used police radios to broadcast a detailed description of the suspect. Miranda identified Barker at the arrest scene as the attempted robber, police said.
