Pennsylvania Operators Struggle Over Fuel Surcharges

Posted on May 3, 2006 by LCT Staff - Also by this author - About the author

YORK, PA. — While commuters are digging deeper to pay for gas, local limousine firms are driving fast into their busy season of proms and weddings with little idea of when fuel costs might drop. Despite a jump in fuel costs, two local limousine companies have not instituted a fuel surcharge. A third limousine business in York raised its rates earlier this year, in part to fend off higher fuel costs.

Should gas prices continue to rise, as Grove expects, Central Pennsylvania Limousine Service would consider implementing a fuel surcharge on its trips. How much more Grove might charge would depend on the distance of trip. Patrick Fendick, owner of Good Samaritan Limousine & Photography Service in Shrewsbury, has decided not to increase his rates. "If you raise your prices too much, you get priced out of the market," he said. "I'm sucking it up and hoping it will go down."
