The Virginia Limousine Association (VLA) announced a new board of directors, effective with the June 3 meeting.
VLA goals include educating members on motor carrier revisions and increasing membership.
?We?ve had a major revision on all the motor carrier laws that goes into effect on July 1,? said Glenn Stafford, new VLA president. ?The whole game changes. So we?re going to be looking to help educate a lot of operators who have not brought themselves up to speed with exactly what they?re supposed to be doing when they get into this business.?
Changes to the motor carrier laws include changes to insurance requirements, entry requirements, penalties for non-compliance, definitions of service and definitions of vehicles.
?Previously, the limousine and sedan end had been fairly unregulated, and it?s gotten out of hand,? Stafford said. ?We worked with members of other passenger carrier groups on a task force over a six month period, and agreed upon these recommendations which will become law July 1. So one of the big goals we have is to bring people into compliance and to help educate them. In doing that, hopefully we?ll include our membership base.?

Mark Pisciotta, secretary
Bart Bass, treasurer
Dan Goff, Sgt.-At-Arms
Dick Zweber, former VLA president, will hold the honorary position of board chairman.
