CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Errol Tyler, a former Dav El chauffeur, is in the midst of a two-year license battle with Cambridge bureaucrats. His new company, Nautical Tours, hopes to use Hydra Terras, 49-passenger amphibious vehicles, to give tours in the Boston area. The city, however, is denying him a license.
Tyler and his executive committee articulated their business plan in front of Cambridge City Council earlier this year to no avail. According to his attorney, licensing is often used to block new competition in the transportation business. The licensing commission says Cambridge has enough trolley tours. Despite the continuous rejection, Tyler intends to prove there is still a need for his services.
