SUV Finally Certified

Posted on July 2, 2001 by LCT Staff - Also by this author - About the author

The Ford Motor Company announced the Ford Excursion has received the company?s stamp of approval to be stretched by certified coachbuilders.

?It has a maximum of 10 passengers, including the driver,? explained Mike Bedard, limousine livery manager of Ford Motor Company. ?It has a 9,900lbs maximum GVW, and 120? maximum stretch.? Bedard explained that the company tested the vehicle and ?we?re confident that by the time the vehicle is released that it meets all the federal standards the way that we?ve configured it.?

Ford is in the process of auditing its certified coachbuilders to make sure the vehicles are built to the company?s specifications. According to Bedard, by late July, some of the coachbuilders will be close to being certified (QVM) to build the Excursion.

Bedard said that the vehicle would be supported by the Ford Motor Company with a three-year/100,000 mile warranty, which is similar to the Town Car program. He also antici-pated that upgrades would be available.
