COLOMBO, SRI LANKA – Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa's office has denied reports that the Treasury allocated 14 million Rupees (approximately U.S. $137,250) for the purchase of a luxury limousine for a cabinet minister. Another government official had charged that arrangements were being made to purchase an official car worth 14 million Rupees for a government minister.
The Presidential Office said in a statement, “The President had directed the Treasury Secretary to abide by policy decisions when it came to the purchase of vehicles for ministers and top officials. President Rajapaksa has also instructed the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance to follow a definite policy when vehicles are imported [for] government ministers and officials.”
