WASHINGTON, D.C. – According to a National Federation of Independent Business survey, entrepreneurs are more likely than the general public to show up on Election Day and cast their vote for candidates and issues they believe will improve their communities. The poll found 84% of small-business owners usually vote and 3% have run for elective office within the past four years.
The prime motivation for political involvement, according to nearly two-fifths of respondents, is to improve the overall well being of their area, state or country. Only 14% attributed their reason for activism to protecting or promoting business interests. Initiating discussions with employees about the impact of a policy issue on their business was the most common activity in which they engaged. They less frequently got involved lobbying public officials, circulating petitions or attending political events.
