NEW YORK CITY — New rules proposed by the New York Taxi City and Limousine Commission (TLC) will make livery vehicles more distinguishable from illegal, unlicensed vehicles. The TLC may require that its windshield and rear-quarter window decals be placed in all for-hire vehicles.
In addition, the TLC also put forth a proposal that requires for-hire vehicles to be inspected at its DMV-certified facility every two years in order to reduce air pollutants. Currently, for-hire vehicles are inspected three times a year but only taxicabs are required to be inspected at the TLC facility. The rules would also require that the name of the base station with which the vehicle is affiliated be marked on the exterior passenger doors, along with the assigned vehicle number and the company’s telephone number. Posting the operator’s license on the inside of the vehicle, like a taxicab, may also be mandated.
