Rogue Limousines Getting the Boot

Posted on July 19, 2006 by LCT Staff - Also by this author - About the author

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — The Westchester Board of Legislators said they will vote in early August on a law allowing police to attach a disabling device, also known as “the boot,” to limousines with five or more outstanding violations or violations with fines exceeding $1,000.

The legislation and public safety committees agreed to change the wording of the proposed law to let officers have booted vehicles towed if they posed hazards or were left in unsuitable areas.

Westchester County Taxi and Limousine Commissioner Barbara Monahan said there were nearly 80 unregistered limousine base stations in Westchester. Deputy Public Safety Commissioner Monte Long said companies outside the county are also subject to the law, adding that Nassau County companies were among those that owed the most in fines.
