Limo Riders View Lights, Benefit Kids

MARSHFIELD, WISC. – A high-class view of Marshfield's holiday lights from the back seat of a limousine is available for the low budget price of $5 per person.

The City of Lights tour provides a 45-minute limo ride through decorated residential areas of Marshfield, said Martin Mann, president of Last Minute Limo USA. People can ride in six- and 10-passenger limos for the low fare.

Proceeds from the fourth annual event, which Mann was inspired to begin after Sept. 11, will go to Children's Miracle Network (CMN).

"It's for the kids," Mann said. " They are our future." One hundred percent of the proceeds benefit local children's health care, said Patti Shafto-Carlson, CMN director for North Central Wisconsin.

"I think this is a very unique fund-raiser," she added. "It not only gives people the opportunity to enjoy something in the community, but also helps children at the same time." Shafto-Carlson said CMN is grateful for Mann's donation of time and company resources, as well as the money generated from the fund-raiser.

Last year, the program raised $2,000 to split between CMN and Hope Lodge.

The rides leave on the hour between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. from various parking lots around Marshfield, and will be held on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through Dec. 23. They will also be offered on Wednesday, Dec. 22, or by request.

The sooner it snows, the quicker seats in the limos will fill up, Mann said. "The white stuff would help. Everyone gets in the mood." Last year, the program had a problem with residents turning off their lights prior to 10 p.m., which is too early for the last group of limo riders to enjoy them, Mann added. "I know I'm bringing people in from out of town," Mann said. "It's good for the city and it helps the charity at the same time."

As president of the Wisconsin Limousine Association, Mann said he plans to expand the fund-raiser statewide next year.
