Passengers Freed From Stolen Limousine

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Five frightened passengers called law enforcement and attempted to escape from their limousine after it was carjacked during a Super Bowl party. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

Paul Edgar Cooper, a Jacksonville resident, was charged with grand theft auto, false imprisonment, attempting to elude a law officer and a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief. The limousine, which was owned by a funeral home in Stone Mountain, Ga., had been reported stolen a day earlier.

The passengers endured a wild ride. They called police, saying that the driver was acting like a crazy man and would not stop the vehicle. Cooper ran through several red lights while trying to flee police. Officers used stop sticks to slow the car, but Cooper continued to drive on the rims of the car, sparks flying, for several miles before eventually losing control.

Cooper was held in the Duval County Jail on $2,500 bond.
