Limo Laws Tighten Up in United Kingdom

DONCASTER, YORKSHIRE, U.K. - The Doncaster Council in Yorkshire recently imposed new regulations on limousines due to their current increase in popularity. New rules set by the council ensures that all drivers, owners, and operators safely and suitably qualified to chauffeur passengers. According to a council spokesman, the conditions were introduced after officials consulted with limousine companies, limousine associations, and the South Yorkshire police department.

“Limousines can be a fun and exciting way to travel but, as a council, we feel it is our responsibility to make sure all limousine operators in Doncaster are competent and reliable,” said Councilor Stuart Exelby, a cabinet member for crime and safety. “ We license taxi cabs, so it makes sense to license limousines as well.”

Limousine businesses have until Oct.1 to license their vehicles with the council. They must also obtain an operator’s license and hold a private hire driver’s license and badge. Also, all limousines that supply alcohol to customers need premises license and personal license, according to the Licensing Act of 2003.
