Disabled Take on Detroit

Posted on July 19, 2006 by LCT Staff - Also by this author - About the author

DETROIT — The proposed policy change not allowing limousine drivers access inside the Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) angered disability advocates, who threatened to file suit if the policy is implemented.

The Detroit airport barred taxi and limousines from picking up clients at the baggage claim area. Instead, passengers must pick up their own luggage and walk across the street to meet their drivers. The Great Lakes Limousine Association (GLLA) delayed the policy, which was supposed to start in June, after a court challenge.

Northwest Airlines executives recently got involved with the case due to concerns over the planned policy. DMA currently allows only one service to solicit business at the airport. All other companies must pick up and drop off passengers by appointment.
