Omatics OverSight Offers Efficiency

Posted on February 24, 2010

The Omatics OverSight Web application integrates GPS data with reservation data to track vehicles and enable dispatchers to make more informed decisions based on vehicle location, pickup location, and times and dates when handling reservations.

PARAMUS, N.J. - With an emphasis on making their clients more profitable by providing them with an efficiency tool, Omatics, based in Paramus, N.J., creates location based technology and mobile-2-mobile (M2M) solutions to limousine, taxi, shuttle bus and motorcoach operators.

The Omatics OverSight Web application integrates GPS data with reservation data to track vehicles and enable dispatchers to make more informed decisions based on vehicle location, pickup location, and times and dates when handling reservations.

"[Dispatchers] can see which vehicles are available and which have customers, they can see what vehicle is closest and as long as it's free they can dispatch it, saving time, money, and gas as a result," said Raymond Bricker, vice president of business development.

OverSight also documents where drivers have been. "You can see where the vehicles are in the GPS history and the reports and what it's displaying on the map in front of the dispatcher," Bricker added. The information on each individual vehicle includes the vehicle speed, direction, how many miles have been driven and idling time.

Another important use of the tool is cutting down on voice chatter, particularly in light of recent laws that now make it illegal to talk on cell phones while driving in many cities. "A lot of the things you might call up and ask your driver about asking where he is, you don't have to do that anymore," Bricker said.

Bricker pointed out that, in addition, OverSight can be used for customer service. "[If] a customer calls and says, 'I ordered a car from you and it was late picking me up.' You can look back at the GPS and validate that."
