LOS ANGELES — The future of filling up your tank at home has arrived.

The first of the revolutionary portable home micro-refinery systems that turns organic waste into a high performance ethanol fuel for cars was installed Thursday night at a home in Pacific Palisades, near Los Angeles.

GreenHouse introduced the first E-Fuel MicroFueler at a premier debut event on June 30 at the home of Chris Ursitti, CEO of the Southern California-based company and founder of the L.A. Center Studios. Green industry leaders and celebrities who walked the "green carpet" included actors Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt, Frances Fisher and Corey Feldman; Hollywood producers Marshall Herskovitz and Jon Sheinberg; football great Chuck Muncie; visionary Tom Quinn; and ethanol pioneer Floyd Butterfield.

The E-Fuel MicroFueler system is a model for energy sustainability. It produces organic fuel, or E-Fuel100, for about two-thirds the cost of gasoline, and can be installed and operated safely at residences or businesses.

Using patented ethanol separation-column technology, the appliance-sized unit produces ethanol and pumps it directly into the consumer's vehicle. The GreenHouse team delivers raw material and maintains the home-based unit as part of the service package it offers.

E-Fuel 100 is produced from carbohydrate waste products from plentiful sources such as spent beer yeast, algae and cellulose (other than corn and other food-based products). E-Fuel 100 burns significantly cleaner than conventional gasoline, is better for the environment, safe to produce and pump at home, replaces all grades of gasoline, and produces distilled water as its only by-product.

"We are excited about the debut of the E-Fuel MicroFueler here in California, a state that is leading the nation in environmental responsibility," said Hollywood film producer and GreenHouse partner Jon Sheinberg. "We are proud to lower the carbon footprint in the Los Angeles basin, where millions of commuters travel the freeways every day."

GreenHouse has partnered with notable companies, including Karl Strauss Brewing Company, Gordon Biersch Brewing Company and Sunny Delight, to convert 29,000 tons of liquid waste using the MicroFueler process.

GreenHouse is a leader in delivering cutting-edge green technology to homes and businesses, and is the exclusive distributor of the MicroFueler in Southern California and Arizona. Chris Ursitti, CEO of GreenHouse, said the company is gearing up for commercial distribution in Southern California by the fourth quarter of 2009 and is taking preorders for the unit.
