SCOTTSDALE, AZ — GPS Insight, a supplier of GPS tracking hardware and software solutions for commercial and municipal fleets, has put out a powerful new capability where customers may assign drivers to vehicles automatically in order to report on their activity across multiple vehicles.
Robert Donat, president and founder of GPS Insight, said that since many companies share vehicles among multiple drivers, this new technology "allows speeding, idling, mileage reports, and alerts to be geared toward individual drivers, not the vehicle."
A GPS Insight customer had asked for this ability in order to determine which driver was assigned to a vehicle in the past when a parking ticket was issued and ignored. GPS Insight started and completed this project in a week, demonstrating how rapidly the development team was able to deliver useful enhancements which drive customer efficiency and ROI.
"This extra level of accountability opens up many possibilities for future product enhancements," Donat said.
These new capabilities allow administrative controls to determine which drivers are assigned to various vehicles historically. They also allow driver-centric reporting such as idling, speeding and odd-hours by the driver, instead of by the vehicle, and historical accountability for which vehicle was driven by a certain driver for infractions such as parking tickets and toll violations.
A driver may be assigned to a vehicle in 5 different ways:
- Manual assignment via the web interface
- Touching a driver "keyfob" to a reader in the vehicle
- Sending the driver ID via Garmin using GPS Insight's Garmin Integration
- Driver sends SMS text message
- Automated API (Application Programming Interface)
GPS Insight's new driver-to-vehicle assignment capabilities make the management of fleets more insightful by ensuring that individual drivers are accountable for their behavior. Now customers can easily separate information on drivers who share the same vehicles due to multiple shifts, a pooled fleet, or daily delivery size considerations.
