SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Motor Coach Industries (MCI) released a pre-trip passenger Coach Safety Orientation DVD, including a version that illustrates the proper use of three-point seatbelts, to help operators inform passengers about motorcoach safety procedures and features.

The MCI videos follow the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s recommendation that motorcoach companies provide information to passengers in a manner similar to the pre-flight safety briefings on commercial airlines. It is recommended that the DVDs be used before or at the start of departure on tour and charter trips, and shown at intervals by carriers operating scheduled service routes.

The DVD demonstrates how passengers should navigate inside the coach while it’s in motion and how to exit appropriately, aiding those who may need assistance. It also suggests calling 911 for emergency help, instructs passengers on the importance of staying seated, and notes the driver’s authority along with the importance of not speaking to the driver.

MCI pre-trip passenger safety DVDs will be issued to owners with their new-coach manuals. The company also will make the DVDs available during its Customer-First events in March and April at locations in the U.S. and Canada, and by request through MCI sales and fleet support representatives.
