RICHMOND, VA. — James River Bus Lines and Carey Transportation have received state recognition for their efforts as tourism-related businesses to reduce harmful environmental effects.
Designated as Virginia Green partners, the two operations have met the criteria of partnership formed by teh Virginia Tourism Corp. and the Virginia Dept. of Environmental Quality.
James River Bus Lines has occupied a headquarters building in Richmond since 1998 that was designed to conserve energy with efficient lighting, geothermal heating and cooling, natural lighting, and reduced water consumption.
The vehicle maintenance departments for James River and Carey use recycled oil, antifreeze, and refrigerant; drains and recycles used oil filters; filters and tests wash water before it goes to the sewer; and recycles paper and plastics.
James River has been in business providing motorcoach services since 1928. It has owned the Carey Transportation operation for Richmond, Norfolk, and Williamsburg since 1978.
