TORONTO — Regency Global Transportation Group, a chauffeured transportation company based in Pittsburgh, and ROCKSTAR LIMO, a provider of chauffeured transportation services based out of Boston and Newport, R.I., have contracted with Green Ride Global to reduce their business carbon footprints.

Green Ride Global, a Toronto-based firm that provides environmental sustainability programs for the transportation industry, tailors carbon reduction strategies to individual operators and then measures the results.

Regency will follow a plan aimed at cutting its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 20% during the next five to 10 years. Regency will achieve these goals through improved fuel efficiency, transitioning to new technologies, reduced electricity use, waste diversion, and employee education.

Green Ride has designed a similar program for ROCKSTAR LIMO which will try to reduce its GHG emissions by 20% during the next five to 10 years through the same measures. With increased environmental awareness and concerns around climate change on the rise, Regency Global and ROCKSTAR LIMO each have implemented an environmental management system that is ISO 14001 compliant and qualifies them for inclusion in the US EPA Climate Leaders program.

ISO 14001 compliant companies typically adopt such initiatives as establishing an in-house environmental committee, evaluating the latest in hybrid and alternative fuel vehicle technology, measuring, monitoring and reporting on business travel and staff commuting, transitioning to a paperless office, retrofitting office lighting, diverting waste and instituting a company-wide recycling program, and choosing biodegradable solvents and cleansers for vehicles and offices. Another operator, Partners Executive Transportation, based in Mineola, N.Y., also is adopting the ISO 14001 environmental management system standards to be verified by Green Ride Global.

These globally accepted standards identify and control the environmental effects of services and improve performance. This is a systematic approach to setting environmental goals, which will monitor and demonstrate performance.

The ISO 14001 standard provides generic requirements, a common reference, and continual improvements for an environmental management system. This standard demands objective evidence, which can be audited, that the management system works well and fully complies with all internal environmental policies.

For Partners, such compliance helps assure its customers, the community, and regulatory agencies of its intent to help protect the environment and conform to supplier expectations of environmental sustainability.
