Many business owners are asking: How is social media going to help my business?
Even the big brands that already have incorporated social media into their marketing strategies still ask this, and why not? It’s a valid question because social media marketing is a new species that still needs plenty of time under the microscope. For most business people, it all comes down to this: Returns seen On Investments. (ROI)
The first thing required of people to appreciate the value of social media is to realize that it is not an investment in the traditional sense. Sure, it takes an investment of a certain amount of time, and time equals money, and manpower equals money, but in order to understand how to use social media, you first need to understand what it is. And it is simply a very valuable and powerful tool, if used correctly.
Social media is just like email. Can one measure the gains achieved from using email? Probably not. But who cares? People chalk it up as a cost of doing business and understand that its absence will cause a company more harm than good. Social media is the same kind of beast, except that it has the unique ability to actively improve a business’s revenue-generating potential in a way that email can’t.
Like it or not, the further along a company gets without a social media presence, the further away from customers minds it will be. Eventually a point will come when a company’s absence in the social media realm signifies to a potential client that the business does not take itself seriously, especially future clients who belong to Generations X & Y. If you aren’t convinced, just ask yourself: Would I do business with a company that didn’t use email?
