TOKYO — In only five years, 24 Limousine has seen its revenues triple and fleet size double in a heavily populated global economic hub that strictly controls the number of vehicles on the road. There are many reasons for that, spanning customer service, training and availability.

All of its chauffeurs, for example, are English speaking, licensed and trained. They are educated to follow 24 Limousine’s policies about safety, quality and client manners. 24 Limousine operates with unlimited full protection insurance.

Also noteworthy, 24 Limousine offered a staffed exhibit booth at this year’s International LCT Show. The company netted affiliate contacts and promoted its service to the Narita Airport (NRT), Haneda Airport (HND), and the Tokyo and Yokohama areas. Marketing team member Luisa Kawahara, who attended the Show and is pictured here in downtown Tokyo, answered the below questions:

Q: What is unique about chauffeured services in your nation compared to the U.S.?
Chauffeured services and limousines are not as common in Japan, although we feel that knowledge and popularity about chauffeured services are increasing. Most services are concentrated in the main cities, such as Tokyo and Osaka, while you can find a chauffeur service in most states in the U.S. The Japanese government is also very strict on possession of cars; therefore Japanese chauffeured service usually does not have a lot of variety of car types. Also, there is no tipping system in Japan!

What are key challenges of your service area/region?
One challenge for chauffeur service in Tokyo is location. In the U.S., it is very common to have street names for each block, but there are many roads/streets in Japan without street names, which make it hard to point [out] map locations.

What qualities do you look for in a U.S. affiliate?
We look for easy accessibility to communication, despite the time difference, in case of urgent notices or emergencies.

What specific rules or procedures do U.S. operators need to be aware of when affiliating with operators in your nation?
U.S. operators will need to know and abide by the cancellation policies of Japanese chauffeur service companies, as there is less flexibility in these cases.

What are your primary business challenges?
The English language is not commonly used in our country, therefore, it would be difficult finding English-speaking chauffeurs. I believe this does not only apply to 24 Limousine but to all operators in Japan.
