Operating a Network: Berkman began an informal network in 1981 initially to meet the needs of his travelling clientele. He examined operations around the country and chose operators he believed were the best in their individual markets The only fee associated with membership is a 10 percent commission fee payable to the referring operator Affiliates can refer clients directly to other operators and are not required to deal directly with Music Express.

Providing Messenger Service: Berkman’s business initially began as a messenger service. We started servicing clients in the music industry and branched out from there. Today we still operate the messenger division as a service to our clients. We provide a very specialized service.” The messenger division currently accounts for about 1 percent of Music Express’ total business and is only operated from the L A. office

Berkman’s Beef: “Unprofessionalism. There is a general attitude from many in this industry that they don’t want to be a part of the industry in general. They need to understand that we must be organized and provide a united voice to legislators to make the biggest impact.”
