GPS System Features Color Display

Posted on April 1, 1998 by LCT Staff - Also by this author

Magellan Systems Corp. in San Dimas, CA, has developed the first hand-held GPS navigator to feature a color display. The new Color- TRAK features 12-channel GPS reception, 30 hours of continuous-use battery life, a built-in thermometer, and a host of other functions.

In other Magellan news, the company has recently received two Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association’s (CEMA) Innovations ‘98 Awards at the annual Winter Consumer Electronics Show for its GPS Pioneer satellite navigator and GPS Map ‘N Track personal navigation system. The awards program recognizes excellence in electronic hardware and software design.

Magellan’s GPS Pioneer satellite navigator is the world’s first portable GPS receiver priced under $100 and features waterproof construction, rubber armoring, and a strong antenna. Three easy-to-follow graphic navigation screens display distance, direction, speed, and other information to show users where they are, take them anywhere they want to go, and bring them back again. The device measures only 6.2” X 2.1” X 1.3”, weighs less than seven ounces, and will run continuously for 24 hours on two AA alkaline batteries.

Combining its hand-held GPS 2000 XL satellite navigator with the company’s CD-ROM computer mapping software, the GPS Map ‘N Track package is an inexpensive navigation solution for business travelers. Plan trips using GPS Map ‘N Track’s digital maps by uploading the information to the GPS 2000 XL. The unit will then show you where to go.
