Over the past few years, I have had the opportunity to meet many of you at Limousine & Chauffeur Shows and other meetings. In the process, business cards with notes on them have been collected. These cards remain in my right hand drawer. From time to time…we need to recommend or speak with a service. That’s when we reach for the right hand drawer. Most recently, I took note of a particular business card. This card promoted me to review all the cards in the drawer.
Heritage Limousines has a card with a lovely four-color glossy photo of a limousine and chauffeur. Now I believe Heritage is in Los Angeles…but I’m not sure. There is neither an address nor an area code on this business card. Surprisingly, I found many more business cards lacking essential information. The one that really stopped me, however, read…”Limousine Service, Second and Main,” (plus a seven digit phone number).
You might be surprised how much useful information can be printed on a business card. Examples in my drawer include D’legance, North American, Pacific Coast, Mcininch, New Yorker, Concord, Assured Luxury, Prestige, Slade, Hollywood, Personal Limousine, Huges, B.S.M. Galahad Ltd., Beverly Hills (in Kentucky), And Silver Cloud. Make it a point to collect business cards during the March Limousine & Chauffeur Show.
While thumbing through the business cards, I came to the conclusion that today in the U.S. you may be able to dial 1 + area code + prefix + 5466 and get an organization that has something to do with limousines. Check this out.
1989 will most likely be a transition year for the limousine industry. The Town Car by Lincoln, the most widely used base for limousines, will receive a major styling change in 1990. Meanwhile, Cadillac appears to be regaining lost popularity as a limousine base unit. However, we are also seeing other types of vehicles being converted into limousines. You may very well see this continue into the ‘90s.
For operators, 1989 will be a year to shape up or shake out.
