SAN FRANCISCO — Since the Minority Limousine Operators of America emerged as a national industry association last year, the group has seen memberships and vendor support rise across the board. Now it's attracting support from Fortune 500 companies.

MLOA President Maurice Brewster reported on a July 27 conference call meeting that AT&T recently signed on as a supporting vendor. “They want to take a strategic position with our organization for teaching, training, and education from a technology point of view,” Brewster told MLOA members on the monthly call.

“They are making available their technology and entrepreneurship courses for MLOA members,” Brewster said. “One of the four things we promised all members is to educate. Having AT&T on as a technology sponsor with their infusion of money will allow us to do many things.”

AT&T’s involvement follows vendor/sponsor commitments from Union Bank and Chrysler Corp., whose newcomer 300 Limited sedan is gaining ground in chauffeured fleets nationwide. Union Bank will help MLOA members with tools for financial and business planning.

All three companies also will offer discounted products and services for MLOA members, Brewster said.

In the latest membership tally, the MLOA has 67 operator members and 7 vendor members.

Education and meetings
The MLOA also is setting up its first education and training programs, with two social media webinars — one hosted by Arthur Messina, CEO of Create-A-Card Inc., and a second one by Pat Charla and Jennifer Wong of Drive Profit, a social media consulting firm. Dates and times to be announced on the MLOA website.

The association also will host a day-long educational seminar in early October at a hotel near the Atlanta-Hartsfield International Airport. TBA.

MLOA members also have plans to gather for two in-person general membership meetings:

  • Monday, Nov. 12, Limo Digest Show, Trump Taj Mahal, Atlantic City, N.J.
  • February 2013, International LCT Show (Feb. 5-7), MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nev.
