ABA Foundation Offers Its Largest Scholarship Ever

The ABAF’s newest — and largest — award provides educational opportunities for potential future leaders of the motorcoach, tour, and travel industry.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The AMERICAN BUS ASSOCIATION Foundation (ABAF) recently added a 20th scholarship — valued at a record $10,000 — to the 19 existing scholarships offered as part of the George T. Snyder, Jr. Scholarship Program.

The ABAF’s new "Driving the Future Award" scholarship is four times larger than each of the 19 current scholarships, which award deserving students $2,500 each academic year to pursue coursework to help them prepare for future positions of leadership throughout the motorcoach, tour and travel industry. By adding this scholarship, the ABAF will be distributing $52,500 annually to support industry families through the Snyder scholarship program.

The scholarship is open to ABA members and partners. Eligible applicants are full-time employees or the dependent children of full-time employees in the motorcoach travel industry. The eligible employee must have been employed by an ABA member company, or by a strategic partner company of the ABAF in good standing, for at least one year as of Jan. 1 in the year in which the scholarships are awarded. The winners or the parents of the winners must still be employed in the spring when the winners are selected. The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.

“We are thrilled to offer through the new ‘Driving the Future Award’ not just the symbolically important 20th ABA Foundation Scholarship, but also to take the George T. Snyder, Jr. Scholarship offerings to a whole new level with this new tier of financial aid,” said ABAF Chairman Doug Anderson. “Each ABAF scholarship is life-changing to its recipient. But a $10,000 scholarship changes the equation when it comes to seeding the future leaders of the motorcoach, tour and travel industry.”

The George T. Snyder, Jr. Scholarships recognize students who demonstrate scholastic ability, leadership, character, diversity, and the potential to be future leaders in the transportation, travel, and tourism industry. The program was established after the passing of the former ABA President & CEO in 1995 to honor his deep and lifelong interest in creating educational opportunities for all segments of the industry.
