LAS VEGAS — One of the most popular sessions at the recent International LCT Show with both new and established operators was how to create a strong team of managers.
Operators filled up a session room to hear an all-star panel including outgoing NLA president Richard Kane of International Limousine Service, Bob Beutel of All Star Transportation, and Dale Theriot of La Costa Limousine. The session was moderated by Jeff Rose from Attitude New York who fielded audience questions and directed comments to the panel members.
These four operators took the audience through the basics of creating a strong dedicated work force that not only would serve clients well, but look to improve business with the same vision as the owner — if hired and developed properly with fundamental goals of the company.
They shared their growing pains, remembering when they tried to do everything themselves, from washing cars to booking orders and taking driving assignments until each finally realized it was no longer feasible to do everything.
Each struggled with what job duties to let go of. They also had to come to terms with the process of hiring chauffeurs so more time could be spent marketing and hiring office staff so more time could be spent delivering exemplary service and bringing back repeat business.
The operators said their growth pains were typical and eventually confront most operators. They also offered insights on ways to continue positive slow growth within your company or look to take the next step. They also highlighted successful strategies for selling service, hiring new recruits, keeping good employees happy, and transitioning employees from one role to another to so they can continue to strengthen the company through meaningful career growth.
