FLA Shares Avis Video with Association Presidents

Posted on February 4, 2009 by LCT Staff - Also by this author - About the author

LAS VEGAS — The Florida Limousine Association shared its videotape of an Avis We DriveU chauffeur during the annual association presidents’ meeting at the International LCT Show last week.

In the video, a member of the FLA uses the Avis service as he is chauffeured from the Miami International Airport to various hotels in Miami.

The video exemplifies how the WeDriveU program works in the Miami market and enabled the association presidents to further understand the potential threat of this program to conventional chauffeured transportation companies.

FLA President Bito Pimento said, “We only want Avis to play under the same rules that apply to us. We do not have a problem with competition as long as they are regulated the same way we are. In Miami, the Avis chauffeurs are not required to have hack licenses or vehicle permits because they are classified as rental car companies.”

The association presidents found the video informative, and some were not aware of the extent of the regulatory disparities that exist between the Avis service and chauffeured transportation companies and how it affects their markets.
