LAS VEGAS — Statewide legal and regulatory issues are important enough to start up industry associations in the states of Montana and Alabama. During the International LCT Show this week, operators from these states updated LCT on issues they would like to see addressed by associations. They plan to start the associations from scratch.
Marc Rold, co-owner of the Wild Horse Limousine in Kalispell, Mont., has been meeting with operators in his state to strategize a lobbying plan to get the state legislature to adopt a consistent fleet vehicle licensing registration structure. The Montana Public Service Commission has made administrative decisions creating varying licensing fees and administrative procedures for limousines, sedans, SUVs, and other vehicles.
This has created frustration and increased costs for operators, Rold says, and they are now working on passage of a new state law that would create a fair, consistent registration structure. These Montana operators also are looking into starting up an association to manage this lobbying effort and other concerns, he said.
Touch of Class, based in Montgomery, Ala., is also talking to industry colleagues about starting up a statewide association, says Doug Isaacson, vice president. Operators are worried about federal and state tax increases and other issues, and Touch of Class has been talking to industry associates about the possibility of starting an association to work on issues of concern.
Economic conditions are stable in its market now, but operators and customers worry about their future and about increases in government taxes and regulations, Isaacson said.
