Chicago Area Towns Pay for Safe Rides on New Year’s Eve

Posted on January 7, 2009 by LCT Staff - Also by this author - About the author

CHICAGO – More than 200 New Year's Eve revelers got safe rides home thanks to a chauffeured limousine service paid for by local towns. My Chauffeur Limousine Service made 65 trips this year, carrying 203 passengers safely home, according to Laura Pogvara, director of customer relations.

"It was a good year. We're glad to see more and more people taking advantage of this," she said. Last year the company provided transportation for 174 celebrants.

Tinley Park and Orland Park generated the greatest number of trips, 16 and 17, respectively, followed by New Lenox with 12. There were nine trips in Mokena, eight in Frankfort, and three in Palos Park. My Chauffeur had 10 eight-passenger vehicles on the road between 11:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. and was able to respond to most party-goers within five to 20 minutes, Pogvara said.

"A few people called back and canceled, saying their friends were driving them home. Others didn't think we'd get there so fast and wanted us to come back," she said.

In instances where they could not respond immediately, the drivers took cell phone numbers and called back when they were available. Riders could not preschedule a specific time.

Typically, the busiest time is between 12:15 and 1:00 a.m., but this year, she said, some were ready to go as early as 11:15 p.m., while others were calling at 2:00 a.m.
