ABA Hits Record Benchmarks For Its Marketplace Event

Posted on April 18, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC — The American Bus Association’s “Marketplace” appointment show set new records in business generated for its motorcoach, travel and tourism company members, according to a newly released survey.

Marketplace 2014, held in Nashville, Tenn., in January, generated $129.8 million dollars’ worth of booked and future business for the show’s more than 3,500 participants, says the report by New York-based consulting firm John Dunham and Associates. See attached graphic.

This represents a 19% increase compared to the 2013 ABA Marketplace show. Companies in all categories saw significant increases, and the average amount of booked business as a result of Marketplace is $88,890 per company.

“It’s absolutely the best thing that I do all year in terms of time and money and investment,” said Anne Bastile of Mirage Tours in Phoenix. “It’s just a wealth of information and knowledge, and it’s all consolidated in a week.”

“I speak with tour operators by phone on a daily basis, but there is nothing like face time and a one-on-one conversation,” said Kelly Martin of the International Spy Museum in Washington, DC. “You get to network and develop friendships within the community. It’s invaluable.”

The study was conducted by John Dunham and Associates (JDA), which arrived at its results by surveying Marketplace attendees in five categories: Receptive Operators, Lodging, Direct Marketing Organizations (DMOs), Attractions, and Associates.

“The study demonstrates once again that ABA’s Marketplace is unmatched as the motorcoach, travel and tourism industry’s premier trade show,” said ABA President and CEO Peter Pantuso, CTIS. “Attendees wrote millions of dollars’ worth of business on the Marketplace business floor, and more business is in the pipeline.”

The ABA’s 2015 Marketplace will be held Jan. 10-13, 2015 in downtown St. Louis in the America’s Center Convention Complex. On April 22, Marketplace registration opens for Operators, DMO, Receptives and Associates. On April 23, registration starts for Hoteliers and Attractions.
