Ron’s testimony of surviving stage-four bladder cancer is a profile in courage. Despite intense pain from the illness, I remember Ron still coming to the 2010 LCT Leadership Summit in Chicago that September. His determination and dedication to the industry should give anyone hope who faces a similar ordeal.
Ron’s sentiments underscore the most important things in life. It’s a perspective worth revisiting often amid the daily distractions of the business world. Since emerging from his battle, Ron sees his responsibility to be a professional and personal mentor to others.
His generosity was apparent to me early on, when I attended my first Greater California Livery Association meeting in February 2008. He rarely misses a GCLA meeting. As the new LCT editor, I hardly knew anyone. Ron took the time to introduce me to operators and help me begin to understand this industry, which I’m still learning about. He calls regularly, just to see how I am doing.
Not one to simply retire, Ron keeps up with the demands of leading his 35-year-old company, Exclusive Sedan Service in North Hollywood, which he runs with his son, Brandan. Ron was elected last year to the Board of Directors of the National Limousine Association.
So here’s to a good, old soul who still smiled and cared about others under the toughest of circumstances. May Ron’s influence run wide and deep in the limousine industry for many years to come, and may he always find plenty of time and energy for his true vocation: Surfing the best waves.
