CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. - A privately chartered bus caught fire Saturday forcing 20 passengers to flee the burning vehicle.

The Atlantic Limousine Service bus was headed to Knotts Island when the driver noticed smoke filling the cabin. Fire crews say he acted quickly by pulling the bus off the road and evacuating all the passengers. The driver then, using a fire extinguisher, worked to put out some of the flames.

When Currituck Fire crews arrived they extinguished the rest of the blaze. The fire department told WAVY.com there were no injuries.

There is no word on what caused the fire.
