Louis Hotard, director of technical services, says, "Most busses have standard 10- and 15-inch monitors if you're lucky. The big 20-inch screens, we have six of those in a coach. That's kind of the wow factor."

The Drivesoft Corp.'s Drivesoft System with DFS is an in-car computer system that has been featured International CES and the SEMA Show, as well as on an episode of MTV's "Pimp My Ride," a build-off show that was featured on TLC Rides and a Sport Compact Car Build series. In a photo in this gallery, company founder Jack Cali appears with show host and rapper Xzibit. Cali devised the Drivesoft Alive System with Driver Friendly Software (DFS). In 2008, Drivesoft began development of Limousine Switching Systems.

The Garmin nuvi 855 offers faster more accurate route calculation than the prior nuvi 850 on a 4.3-inch touch screen, according to Garmin. It offers a "Where to" option that allows drivers to give a destination through voice or touch screen. The unit improves recognition of unfamiliar intersections, road signs and junctions. It retails for about $500. Real-time traffic is available via the MSN Direct service for $49.95 a year, or for a one-time charge of $129.95.

GPS Navigation Units

GPS systems from Garmin, TomTom and others have evolved to a point where they provide detailed, accurate guidance to drivers. And with features such as Bluetooth hands-free calling, touch screens, spoken directions and lane guidance, they have become as easy to use as a cell phone. Depending on the unit, traffic data can also be brought to the screen of these portable navigation devices.
